Support the yellow ribbon/bandana dog project at Frisky Winter Walk in Secunda this Saturday
This is also a great idea for animal lovers who do not like their animals being petted by strangers.
Because Dogs & Co, together with Terry-Lee Kleynhans, will be launching a yellow ribbon/bandana project in a 2km Frisky Winter Dog Walk that will take place at 11:00 this Saturday, August 13, at the Vinkedam, Parkrun area in PDP Kruger Street, Secunda.
The yellow ribbon project has taken off well overseas and Kleynhans and Because Dogs & Co’s Chantél Vorster thought this would be a great concept to bring to Secunda because of its many animal lovers.
“We have a lot of people who make use of our open spaces, like the Duckpond and park areas, to walk their dogs. Many dog owners do not put their dogs on leashes and let them run free in our parks,” said Vorster.
She said this is a cause of concern because even if the owner thinks their dog is friendly and gets along with other animals, this may not always be the same for other dog owners who walk their dogs along the same routes.
A yellow ribbon or bandana on the leash or on the dog indicates that it needs space for reasons such as:
• dog is recovering
• dog is in season
• dog is old and tired
• dog is scared
• dog is not well
• dog is insecure
• dog is in training
• dog wants to be left alone
• dog needs time to move out of the way
• dog is not animal or people friendly
This is also a great idea for animal lovers who do not like their animals being petted by strangers.
Proceeds of the Frisky Winter Walk will go towards signage around the Duck Pond to create awareness around the project and how these ribbons or bandanas can be obtained, as well as towards the non-profitable organisation’s veterinarian bills when it comes to aiding the less fortunate in getting their dogs spayed or neutered and other medical care.
Kleynhans is currently gaining advice on a new venture for animal lovers that would make walking in the park a joyful adventure.
To apply for improvements to the park, signatures are required to drive this project and therefore Because Dogs & Co, and Kleynhans are urging all members of the public to join and support the Frisky Winter Dog Walk.
