Indawo Yosizo launches mobile library for kids in Ext 11, eMzinoni
The Indawo Yosizo Foundation mobile library will visit the children every Saturday from 11.00 to 13.00 to exchange books and help them to learn reading.
A mobile library consisting of reading books was launched by Indawo Yosizo Foundation for children in Ext 11 eMzinoni on Mandela Day, Monday, July 18.
This formed part of the 67-minute project which aims to restore dignity and allow relief to people who struggle daily.
“It was a day to leave the worries of their lives behind and enjoy reading.
“Simple things that we take for granted are something a lot of people don’t often get to enjoy,” said Zanele Gwebu, a founder of the Indawo Yosizo Foundation.
The foundation aims at educating children on the importance of reading and that it engages various parts of the brain
“When they read, they exercise their comprehension abilities and their analytical abilities.
“It will help them recall information as well as stabilise their emotions,” said Gwebu.
She said it is important for children to read because it expands their vocabulary, helps build independence and self-confidence and it keeps them safe.
“Let us encourage our children to read.”
The Indawo Yosizo Foundation mobile library will visit the children every Saturday from 11.00 to 13.00 to exchange books and teach them how to read.
“We also inform them about the dangers of drugs, GBV awareness, criminal offences, electricity safety tips and other life-related issues,” said Gwebu.
The celebration ended with the children being treated to a goodie bag consisting of sandwiches, oranges and water. The girls were also given sanitary pads.
This initiative was also supported by Eskom, Miss Teen Ekasi Finalist and Bethal Police who also donated clothes and small gifts for the children in Ext 11.
“We believe that it takes one word to change the lives of many #ngiyafisa,” concluded Gwebu.
