Father from Sakhile worried about his son’s future
The events leading up to his dilemma occurred when a tree fell down on his son during a fundraiser at a primary school in Sakhile.
It is fast going on for nine months without formal schooling for a paraplegic from Standerton.
The father has been in contact with the Standerton Advertiser regularly in his quest to have his
son’s future addressed.
“You are my last hope after all the empty promises I have received,” one WhatsApp-message read.
“My son is still not placed in a school.”
He posted the need for educational toys in July to keep the boy’s mind challenged.
The events leading up to his dilemma occurred when a tree fell down on his son during a fundraiser at a primary school in Sakhile.
The newspaper is protecting the identity of the child on the father’s request.
The young boy sustained critical injuries and was first transported to Standerton Hospital and then transferred to Witbank Hospital.
A memorandum of Witbank Hospital indicated that he sustained polytraumatic injuries to the brain, legs and spine.
He underwent a spine operation to stabilise the fractures and according to the father, his right lung was also injured.
The newspaper contacted the school again on Friday, August 12 with the same result namely, the call went to voicemail.
Jasper Zwane, provincial spokesman of the Department of Education, was also contacted via WhatsApp again the same day.
The WhatsApp-message sent on February 3 was forwarded and a request was made for comment from the department.
According to the father, he signed a report at the HOD of the Department of Education and requested the available CCTV-footage of the incident.
The father said he has not received the footage, as promised.
“Arrangements have to be made as a matter of urgency,” he previously said.
A care worker and home schooling are high on his list.
During a visit to the family in January, the young boy was watching cartoons on television.
