Bakkie-driver dies in accident near Delmas

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

A motorist was killed and his passenger injured when a truck and bakkie collided on the R50 outside Delmas yesterday afternoon, August 16.

According to Russel Meiring, spokesman for ER24 ambulance services, ER24 and the provincial EMS arrived on the scene after 16:00 to find the wrecked bakkie in the middle of the road.

The truck that had collided with the bakkie was on its side a short distance away.

“On closer inspection, medics found the body of a man lying next to the bakkie. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

“Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead,” said Meiring.

A man, who was a passenger in the bakkie, was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries.

He was treated and transported by the Provincial EMS to a nearby hospital. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
