Evander-teen volunteers to care for animals at local SPCA
“I chose to volunteer to help animals and I think everyone should follow. Animals should be able to love us and not fear us.”
Divine Muzorava is a true example to youth on how one could be spending their time to make a difference.
Divine is a Grade 9 junior RCL learner at Evander High School and walks from his home in Evander to the Highveld Ridge SPCA every Saturday, to volunteer his time to care for animals.
Many youths are drawn to online gaming and social media, but Divine chooses to spend his time giving a lot of love and attention to animals that are sheltered at the SPCA.
“There are animals that have been treated cruelly by man. I choose to use my time to show love to these animals,” said Divine.
Divine said dogs must be treated as man’s best friend and for them not to show aggression, one needs to give them love.
“I chose to volunteer to help animals and I think everyone should follow. Animals should be able to love us and not fear us.”
Divine chose to be the change in his school and community and to show some kindness.
His duties as a volunteer include giving kennels that are occupied by dogs and cats, food and water, as well as interacting and playing with the animals.
“These are beautiful animals that just want a friend.
“I want them to have a family like us. These are not just animals, they are like human beings who just want love too,” said Divine.
Divine has seen many cases of animal abuse and he wishes the abuse of animals will stop.
His concern is also for dog owners who leave their dogs roaming the streets.
“If I see a dog in the street, I report it to the SPCA and hope that they will eventually find a home and family that will properly care for the animal,” said Divine.
He encourages the community and its youth to make a difference by volunteering services.
“We need to show God that we as humans can do more. We should at least try to help animals, orphans, the elderly or anyone who needs our help.
“We should stand up and do what is right,” said Divine.
When Divine told his parents he wanted to do volunteer work, they supported him and encouraged him to set an example.
EHS’s deputy principal, Annaetha Fourie, said they are proud of Divine.
“We are where we are now according to God’s plan for us.
“We must not look into the future or past, we must use the moment now.
“We all have a purpose. Divine has been chosen for this purpose and he is fulfilling it,” said Fourie.
Divine said he wants to become a veterinarian or an electrical engineer.
“I am still trying to figure out which one would be my first option.
“Right now veterinary is leading because I see many animals needing care,” said Divine.
He also encourages owners to spay or neuter their animals to stop unnecessary breeding which results in the animals being surrendered to animal welfare.
“Not many people understand the importance of this because they think dogs are just there to guard us.
“Animals help us when we need them. They are like our brothers and sisters, they are a part of our family,” said Divine.
The Highveld Ridge SPCA has welcomed Divine to their family.
On their Facebook page, they showed their appreciation by thanking him for his dedication and wishing him good rewards for the work he is doing.
