Evander Gold Mines make a positive contribution to local communities
Every week, there is the cleaning of local dams, parks and the R546 Road up to eMbalenhle.
Evander Gold Mines (EGM) is making a positive difference in and around Evander for the benefit of its local communities.
Its mission is to improve road conditions by patching up potholes and cleaning the area by removing overgrowth and litter.

Much-needed repairs such as patching potholes and cleaning the tarmac are being carried out on Solly Zwane Road.
EGM began with these initiatives in 2021 by cutting grass on the roadside in and around Evander, and hiring local community members for the tasks, providing much-needed employment opportunities.
Currently, 10 members of the local community have been employed by the mine for the plant clean-up operations at Elikhulu and the above community projects.
“EGM is aware of the key role played by our host communities in the long-term sustainability of our operations, and we are passionate about driving social, economic and infrastructure development in these areas, while at the same time protecting and conserving the natural environment.
“We look forward to continuing with these initiatives in collaboration with all stakeholders going forward,” said Sifiso Mathebula, assistant stakeholder and communications officer for EGM.
EGM also donated R60 000 to three established local non-profit organisations that are doing excellent work to benefit those in need.
These are the Khuthala Association for the blind, Mpumalanga Youth Council Organisation and Leandra Community Center, who each received the sum of R20 000.
Zweli Hlatshwayo, the director of Leandra Community Center, thanked the EGM for the donations and said: “We are grateful to the Evander Gold Mines for the donations they have made to our organisation, including the food parcels that were donated to the elders during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We trust that this relationship will grow from strength to strength as it benefits our community in many ways,” concluded Hlatshwayo.
