Grootdraai Dam stands at 99.8%
All the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded declines in water volumes.
Water levels in dams in Mpumalanga are on the decline.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) called on the public to be water-wise and use available water sparingly as the decline in levels in the listed dams and catchment areas continues.
According to their weekly state of reservoirs report dated August 8, the average levels dropped from 95.1% to 94.6%.
Water levels in the Water Management Areas (WMA) also continue to drop, with the Olifants dropping from 84.4% to 84.3% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropping from 98.5% to 97.9%.
All the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded declines in water volumes.
Grootdraai dropped from 99.9% to 99.8%, Nooitgedacht from 100.3% to 100.2%, Vygeboom from 99.6% to 98.6%, Jericho from 98.7% to 98.2%, Westoe from 89.8% to 88.3%, Morgenstond from 100.6% to 100.1% and Heyshope from 100.5% to 100.4%.
The department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and water conservation is key to reliable and sustainable water supply for all.
