Grootdraai Dam drops to 97.7%
The department said this situation is much better than the 81.0% recorded at the same time last year.
The water levels in Mpumalanga continue to drop.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) weekly state of reservoirs report, dated August 22, average levels in the listed dams dropped from 94.5% to 94.2%.

In the water management areas (WMA), the Olifants dropped from 84.0% to 83.5% which is better than the 74.1% recorded last year, and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 98.0% to 97.9% which is also better than the 87.6% recorded last year.
Listed dams that recorded declines in the Gert Sibande District include Grootdraai from 98.9% to 97.7%, Nooitgedacht from 100.0% to 99.6%, Jericho from 97.2% to 96.3%, Westoe from 86.6% to 84.7%, and
Morgenstond from 100.0% to 99.8%.
The department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and said water has no substitute.
It is therefore critical to use water sparingly and always ensure that every drop counts.
