Sasol celebrates women with event in Secunda
Several speakers address audience during brunch event.
Sasol celebrated Women’s Month with a brunch at the Sasol Recreation Club on Thursday, August 25.
The event’s theme was Gender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow, women leading the transition to a greener economy.
Several women working for Sasol, as well as others, addressed the women on various topics.
Caroline Shirdinza, vice-president of Sasol Mining, said women need to be celebrated daily for making the world we live in a better place.
“Unfortunately, we as women, also contribute to others feeling biased treatment in the workplace,” said Shirdinza.
“It is our duty as women to make sure we create an inclusive workplace and achieve equality.
“Let us celebrate our women and use your voice.”
Mashudu Ndou, vice-president for Sasol Corporate Affairs, said the main purpose of women is to carry each other when they rise.
“This work is not just about yourself, if you can rise, bring someone with you,” said Ndou.
“Let us do away with jealousy and love one another as sisters.
“Let us do unto others as we would like them to do unto us.”
A panel of women, including Margareth Sichali, chief safety officer at Bosjesspruit Mine, Ziee Magagula of Sasol Planning and Nirisha Sewpersad, from Sasol’s Projects and Engineering Department, and the master of ceremony, Nomia Machebe, Sasol’s manager of Media and Communications, also addressed women and answered questions from the guests.
They spoke about a world dominated by men and what women’s roles are in this career direction.
All three women found it difficult to climb the ladder to success in a man’s world, but they rose above their circumstances and continued to climb.
Nanana Hlatshwayo, from the Department of Health, said women should journey together and not celebrate each other’s failures.
