Dead man found underground at mine in Evander

The police in Evander opened an inquest case after a man was found dead at the Evander Gold Mines’ shaft 8 last week.

According to Sergeant Zukiswa Mxhotjelwa, police were called to shaft 8 where a dead man was found underground.

Mxhotjelwa said an inquest case was opened as the cause of death is not yet known.

Hethen Hira, head of the Evander Gold Mines’ investors relations, said the man is not related to the mine but the matter is under investigation.

Hira said once the investigation is done, the mine will issue a statement.
