With the festive season underway, criminals come out to prey. Local police are warning residents to be mindful when discarding rubbish.
Police come across residents who have brought electrical appliances, such as TVs and have dumped the boxes on the pavement next to their black bags for waste removal.
“The issue of municipal trucks not always removing rubbish is an invitation to criminals that there are new appliances to steal,” said Capt Marieta Wright.
She said burglaries in the town are rife. She also said it is not only TV boxes but anything that can show a criminal a new item has been bought.
“Leaving anything outside on the pavement showing your new purchases is an open invitation for criminals to break in.
“Break the boxes or cut them in pieces and put them in black bags before putting them outside,” said Capt Wright.
