Rising Stars win Back to School soccer tournament in eMbalenhle
The tournament was held to collect school uniforms and school necessities for needy learners.
Rising Stars FC won the Back to School tournament held at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club on January 8. This eight-team event began with the knockout stages on January 6.
The teams that participated were Rising Stars FC, Secunda Stars FC, Eleven Attackers FC, Emba Aces, Sasol Juventus, Red Straws Academy, and the Inter Roses.
Rising Stars and Secunda Stars made the final, which ended in a penalty shootout that Rising Stars won 4-2.
According to Jabu Tholo, the tournament organiser, the event aimed to encourage the community to donate school uniforms and other schooling necessities to needy learners.
Tholo said that as schools are opening soon, they would donate what they have to schools in eMbalenhle.
Two women’s football teams, Rising Stars Women and Storm Ladies FC, also played in a warm-up match that ended in a 0-0 draw.
