Court sends murderer from eMbalenhle to prison for life
According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, Detective Warrant Officer Melusi Mthombeni investigated the case and worked tirelessly to apprehend the suspect.
The Middelburg High Court sentenced Lennox Mntambo from eMbalenhle to life imprisonment for murder, domestic violence and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) on January 27.
He was arrested several days after he stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of their eight-year-old son in Mandela Section, eMbalenhle, in November 2021. The boy’s hand was cut when he tried to intervene.
Mntambo fled the scene, leaving the woman in a pool of blood outside her shack. He hid for several days but called his son for information about his mother.
The child never revealed to Mntambo that her mother died but instead told him that she (the mother) was in the hospital.
Mntambo then told the child he would return to kill both of them.

Melusi Mthombeni, who investigated the case, worked tirelessly to apprehend the suspect. Mthethwa said he listened in on the conversation in which Mntambo threatened the child.
After the police circulated Mntambo’s picture as a wanted person, the owner of the house where he was hiding called the police. They then arrested Mnthambo.
Mthethwa said the eMbalenhle police are proud of Mthombeni’s effort to ensure Mntambo was arrested and justice served for the woman murdered in front of a child who must now grow up without a mother.
Mntambo was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, five years for contravening a protection order and five years for assault GBH, of which counts one and three will run concurrently.
