Classical music lovers enjoy music festival in Wakkerstroom
Linette van der Merwe, organiser, said they strive every year to attract new artists and friends to discover, rediscover and enjoy the works of the great masters.
The 12th Wakkerstroom Music Festival took place the long weekend of March 17 to 21, after a music drought of two years, due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Visitors could listen to 28 individual classical music and four classical jazz concerts, performed in the surroundings of Wakkerstroom.
The acclaimed opera singer, Rouel Beukes, with a Hawaiian shirt woven from banana and pineapple leaves, was the MC at the gala concert.
The programme included seasoned and highly skilled classical music artists, jazz performances and a variety of different musical genres.

For some Standertonians, who travelled to Wakkerstroom, this weekend was the highlight of the year so far.
“We were in a musical heaven,” Dina Hohls commented.

The aim is to reach a broader circle to continue the love of classical music in the community.
