A demonstration was given to the nursing staff, doctors and patients on how to ensure hands are properly cleaned to prevent infections and antimicrobial resistance.

Hand washing is the best way to keep kids from getting sick and prevent the spread of germs.

What is the best way to wash hands?
1. Wet hands with clean, running water;

2. Use soap and lather for 20 seconds;

3. In between fingers, on the backs of the hands, palms, under nails and the wrists and;

4. Rinse and dry well with clean
towel.

When should we wash hands?
• Before eating/cooking

• After using the toilet

• After touching animals

• After blowing nose, coughing or sneezing

• After being outside (playing)

Germs spread through:
• Touching dirty hands

• Changing dirty diapers

• Contaminated water/food

• Droplets (cough/sneeze)

• Contaminated/dirty surfaces

• Sick people’s body fluids

Do not underestimate the power of hand washing. The time you spend at the sink could save you a trip to the doctor’s office.
