Rayton Clinic in disrepair after the summer rains

Clr Johannes Bekker recently conducted an inspection and oversight of the clinic to assess the extent of the damage.

The Rayton Public Clinic, a vital healthcare facility serving the community, is in disrepair after the summer rains.
It brings to light a deeper issue – the prevalence of tenders awarded to apparent sub-standard contractors.

Clr Johannes Bekker of Ward 100 is concerned about the situation and recently conducted an inspection and oversight of the clinic to assess the extent of the damage caused by the rains.

Despite the clinic roof’s unique butterfly design, it was plagued by leaks since its construction.

During Bekker’s visit, water seeped through the roof, exacerbating the damage.

“Not limited to the roof, other aspects of the clinic’s infrastructure also fell short of expectations. Instead of the specified aluminium windows, inferior frames were installed that compromise the facility’s structural integrity,” said Bekker.

The rain also took its toll on the clinic’s furniture and fixtures, causing rot and deterioration. Panels dangle precariously because the water damage persists.

“City officials are urged to review and strengthen the procurement process, ensuring that only qualified and reputable contractors are entrusted with vital infrastructure initiatives.

“The well-being and safety of the community should be paramount in these decisions,” continued Bekker.

In the face of the clinic’s deterioration, Bekker called for improved management and heightened accountability.
According to him, the relevant officials were asked to act swiftly.
