3 280 blankets collected at Warm Fees held in Trichardt
A blanket as an entrance fee was warmly supported at this year's Warm Fees hosted at Laerskool Trichardt with Martin Bester and his band Kinky Robot, Secunda Round Table 231, Drommedaris Drum Duo and Mauritzka.
A total of 3 280 blankets were collected at the Warm Fees held on June 3 at Laerskool Trichardt.
An initiative by Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester, which began in Centurion a few years ago, has since seen him joining hands with the Round Table to collect blankets for those in need.
The entrance fee was a donated blanket, and locals enjoyed food, arts and crafts stalls, fun and games and plenty of entertainment by Martin and his band Kinky Robot, the Drommedaris Drum Duo and Mauritzka.
Children and their caregivers of the Janelle Children’s Home in Evander and the SAVF Children’s and Youth Care Centre from Secunda were the VIP guests for the day and the ones who benefited from this good cause.
Funds of R170 000 were raised and another R60 000 worth of pledges is still to be paid.
“The generosity and kindness of the people in Secunda and surrounds just kicked in. And it snowballed from there and rolled into this big donation,” said Martin on the Good Morning Angels show.
“If you do something good, it encourages other people to get involved,” said Martin.
Mari Louw of the SAVF said on the Jacaranda Good Morning Angels show that it is not easy as they sit with broken children.
“How do you tell a child to reach for the stars when they have never seen the stars in their life?” asked Louw.
Taking care of vulnerable children in need costs money, and these two non-profit organisations rely on the funding of their community.
With only 24 beds, the SAVF takes care of 16 children since opening in October 2022.
Although the show is over, pledges are still coming in and can still be made.Dew Fresh Milk donated milk to the value of R27 000.
Altus Delport of Secunda Round Table 231 is in negotiations with a local car dealership for transport for the SAVF children which is a challenge for this organisation.
Martin Bester himself donated R1 000 with Good Morning Angels donating a further R50 000.
“We would like to thank Laerskool Trichardt for opening up their hearts and allowing us to use their school grounds for such a special event,” said Altus.
