Case against Secunda security officer goes to Evander Regional Court

The matter now awaits a provisional regional court date.

A security officer appeared before the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on August 18.

The case was referred for a provisional regional court date in the Evander Regional Court, where the accused will appear on September 11.

The case comes after an incident where the security officer, who works for a local security company, allegedly shot and killed a man on November 23 last year along Nelson Mandela Drive.

ER24 treated the man on the scene and rushed him to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The security officer, who also received treatment at a local hospital for injuries he sustained, was arrested on the same day.

According to the police, the firearm used in the incident belonged to the security company that employed the security officer.
