SAPS arrest suspect in connection with death of his father in Volksrust

Police and paramedics were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, the victim was certified dead.

The SAPS in Volksrust arrested Sizwe Praisegod Nkosi (30) for allegedly killing his father (50).

According to a statement of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the incident occurred in Bukuzakhe, Volksrust, at about 16:00 on September 10.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. The SAPS cannot rule out the possibility that the father was killed for his property.

According to information received, the suspect’s father rented out backrooms to tenants on his property.

Reports indicated the suspect was no longer living with his father and he went to the father’s house on the day of the incident.

He allegedly tried to evict the tenants, after claiming he was the lawful heir to his father’s property.
Nkosi, however, has three siblings.

The father intervened. However, the suspect allegedly stabbed him. The police were summoned and paramedics certified the father dead.

The police opened a murder case and began with investigations. The suspect appeared in the Volksrust District Court on September 12. They remanded him into custody and he will appear again for a formal bail application on October 2.

The provincial commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, condemned the alleged domestic violence-related incident while commending the police for the swift arrest of the suspect.
