Zithobeni learners excel in Maths Olympiad

Zithobeni Secondary School learners participated in the Gauteng Maths Olympiad.

Two Grade Eight learners from Zithobeni Secondary School excelled in the Gauteng Maths Olympiad on September 6.

Thulisile Mboyane and Thandeka Skosana were among the top learners in the category of township schools in the province.

They represented the North District and were invited to the provincial prize-giving ceremony on September 16.

The provincial Maths Olympiad is an annual event for mathematically talented learners, and they compete against each other on a provincial level.

Thousands of learners across the province participate every year.

The Olympiad consists of four rounds. Round one (school level) is where only two learners from each grade in their school move to the next round.

The second round is on the circuit level, where only two learners from each grade in their circuit move on to the district level.

The district winners move on to the provincial level, where the top 10 learners from each grade in the province are acknowledged as the winners.
