Water levels remain stable at Grootdraai Dam
All three districts in the province recorded declines in water levels, in line with the average decline in the province.
The Department of Water and Sanitation’s state of reservoirs report of September 25 showed that most of the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District were stable and remained unchanged over the week.
According to the report, Grootdraai Dam remained unchanged at 88.0%, Jericho unchanged at 78.7%, Westoe unchanged at 58.0%, Morgenstond unchanged at 98.0%, and Heyshope unchanged at 98.3%.
The remaining dams in the district recorded mixed results, with Nooitgedacht Dam dropping from 86.4% to 85.1% and Vygeboom Dam recording a slight increase from 100.3% to 100.5%.
The report also showed that water levels continued to drop on average in Mpumalanga because the average levels dropped from 94.6% to 94.1%.
In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants dropped from 87.2% to 86.6% and the Inkomati-Usuthu from 94.8% to 94.4%.

Ehlanzeni District dropped from 96.8% to 95.7%, Gert Sibande District from 91.5% to 91.4% and Nkangala District from 97.7% to 97.0%.
The department reminded the public that SA is a water-scarce country and they should use water conservatively.
Water is a precious resource and a source of life, which calls for an end to water wastage.
