DA’s Federal Leader John Steenhuisen comes to Secunda
DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen emphasises the importance of South Africans registering to vote for the 2024 General Elections.
Gearing up for the upcoming 2024 general elections, DA federal leader John Steenhuisen, together with DA Mpumalanga leader Jane Sithole and DA Mpumalanga chairperson Bosman Grobler, visited Secunda as part of their Mpumalanga tour.
The event was held at Lake Umuzi’s Makoro Hall on September 26.
The visit aimed to encourage residents to register and vote in next year’s election, which Steenhuisen said it the most important election of all time to bring an end to the ruling party, the ANC.
He highlighted that South Africa has one of the highest death rates comparing it to the Ukraine war, and said:
“Our crime rate is through the roof. We have a higher rate of deaths due to murder and violence than the Ukraine where there is a full-blown war.”
He said there are 75 murders every day in South Africa.
“We have an unemployment crisis of epic proportions, where 42% of South Africans don’t have a job,” said Steenhuisen.
He also said that the education system has failed “our children” of which 82% of Grade 4 learners can not read for meaning.
He also brought up the energy crises, which as a result is causing “economic devastation”.
Steenhuisen also brought up the SOE bill that was tabled in Parliament saying: “If the current government continues, then South Africa is heading on a downward trajectory towards a failed state,” said Steenhuisen.
To move forward he brought up the Moonshot pact (Multi-Party Charter).“It is now time for South Africans, who may come from different political parties, backgrounds and philosophies, to come together around a common set of values and principles.

“It does not make sense for us to be fighting each other on irrelevant issues when the country is facing such a huge crisis.
“Surely we can put our petty differences aside and come together with a common set of values and principles and a program of action,” said Steenhuisen.
“Next year’s election is going to be a fundamentally important election for South Africa. This is going to be a pivotal moment in our history. People both locally and internationally will be watching South Africa,” said Steenhuisen.
He emphasised the importance of registering to vote.
“You can only vote if you are registered to vote. It is everyone’s business to get involved and play their part,” said Steenhuisen.
