The Sijongile Ndamase community hall in eMbalenhle has finally been fenced after a community outcry.

Residents said the hall has turned into a drug house where dealers allegedly traded without fear of the police.

The residents said they were too scared to pass by the community hall because the addicts had taken over the hall and were sleeping and smoking there.

Govan Mbeki Municipality Art and Culture Forum and community members joined hands in a campaign to clean up the vandalised hall last year where members of the movement and municipal law enforcers also removed all drug users from the hall.

The police in eMbalenhle opened a murder case after an alleged drug addict was shot eight times at the hall.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality Executive Mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma, committed to the community that as the council they took a decision to fence the hall this financial year and it will be refurbished in the next financial year.
