Court sentences Standerton bank robber 15 years imprisonment

SAPS in Standerton held an identification parade on December 6, 2014, where Nxumalo was positively identified.

Bank robbers were handed a hefty sentence following a robbery at Nedbank, Standerton, on May 17, 2014.

Standerton Police opened a case with the charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances. According to police, the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

According to the investigating officer, Sergeant GT Mbendzi of Organised Crime, Johannesburg, the suspects were wanted for several bank robberies.

An identification was held on December 6, 2014, after three suspects were arrested at North West. Xolani Nxumalo was among the three and was also identified positively by witnesses in Johannesburg.

Altogether 11 suspects were charged. The main case was in Johannesburg Central. A facial comparison was held relating to the seven cases after the crime scene footage was viewed and the facial comparison results were positive in three cases.

Police in Langlaagte, Vosloorus and Vereeniging opened cases. The three suspects were requisitioned on October 14, 2015, from Potchefstroom Prison to Johannesburg Court.

SAPS in Standerton held an identification parade on December 6, 2014, where Nxumalo was positively identified.

Nxumalo was convicted in Johannesburg on August 30 this year and sentenced to 15 years of life imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
