Constable Busi Mthethwa said the cellphone number used by the perpetrator begins with 066.

eMbalenhle Police warn people applying for recruitment at SAPS to beware of a scammer by the name of Mr Nkosi Sifiso.

This man contacts applicants and tells them to pay in advance for the medical examination for fitness every applicant must pass to be accepted into the police academy.

This scammer sends eager applicants to pay money ranging between R300 and R1000 into an account at Pep.

The victims are then told to go to the police station where a doctor will see them.

Several people have reported to the eMbalenhle Police Station today just to hear that this is a scam and that there is no doctor at the station.

Constable Busi Mthethwa said the cellphone number used by the perpetrator begins with 066.

“Do not fall for this scam. The police will never ask money from applicants – not even for uniforms or medical examinations,” said Mthethwa.
