The Zimeleni Disabled Organisation fights for people living with albinism

The chairman said people with this condition are entitled to a social grant.

The Zimeleni Disabled Association wants people with albinism to receive a disability grant.

The chairperson, Doctor Mayisela, said this during the organisation’s first meeting of the year at eMbalenhle Sasol Club on January 21.

Mayisela said it is disturbing that people living with albinism in eMbalenhle get different treatment than those in other areas.

“A person living with albinism in Ermelo is receiving a social grant but is not eligible for social grants in our area.
“Someone living with albinism has special needs. They have sensitive skin and eyes that need protection. Sunscreen is costly,” said Mayisela.

“People with this condition are entitled to a social grant.

“This organisation will have to meet with the government to hear why these people do not qualify for social grants because they are living with disability,” said Mayisela.

He said his organisation will also meet the Govan Mbeki Municipality’s leadership to discuss service delivery issues affecting the elderly and the disabled.
