Secunda’s Dra Mekaar celebrates its women at Mother’s Day breakfast

The next Dra Mekaar meeting on May 21 will be the handover of toiletry bags for teenagers who are housed at the Volksrust Children’s Home.

Dra Mekaar members gathered at the Bossa Restaurant for a Mother’s Day breakfast on May 7.

The morning meeting opened with a scripture reading and prayer by minister Diederich Kleynhans.

Dra Mekaar’s André Jonker entertained the members with songs and opened with Kurt Darren and Nicholis Louw’s Mamma.

Thanks go to all the members who supported Dra Mekaar’s tin food, clothing and toiletries projects over the months.

Celebrating mothers at the Dra Mekaar Mother’s Day breakfast are Lucinda du Plessis, Maurie Page and Carol Hattingh.

So far, the tin project has collected 288 cans of non-perishable food. Dra Mekaar hopes to collect 400 tins by August. These tinned foods, along with the donated clothes, will be distributed to the Jerigo Opheffingsoord in Eloff.

Dra Mekaar has completed its toiletries project. Members’ contributions will supply 23 boys and 31 girls at the Volksrust Children’s Home with handmade toiletry bags containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth, soap and roll-on.
