Four killed in early-morning accident on R547 near Kinross
The two surviving occupants are seriously injured.
Four men were killed in a single-vehicle accident on the R547 between Kinross and the 50/50 crossing in early this morning, August 18.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at about 03:30, where they found a car that had rolled several meters off the road and come to rest on its roof in a maize field.
According to sources on the scene, the vehicle was carrying six occupants at the time of the accident. It is believed that the driver lost control over the car, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Three occupants were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. One of them was found trapped beneath the wreckage and was declared dead at the scene.
Fire and rescue teams used the Jaws of Life to free the three individuals who remained trapped inside the vehicle. All three these men were pronounced dead on the scene.
The remaining two occupants — a man and a woman who were ejected during the crash — sustained serious injuries. They were stabilised on site and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Authorities have launched a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
