After the tavern closed, the pair were walking home when the woman pointed out the group of men who allegedly had robbed her earlier.

The community of Sakhile in Standerton is reeling in shock and anger following a rape and murder incident that occurred in Ext 6 during the early hours of May 16.

According to Sergeant Johannes Ndaba, Standerton police spokesperson, six men have since been arrested in connection with the murder of a man and the rape and stabbing of a woman.

Ndaba said police were summoned to the scene of a violent attack near a tavern in the area. The deceased and a female companion had been drinking at the tavern before the incident unfolded.

“It was reported that the woman went outside the tavern and when she returned, she informed the deceased that she had been robbed of her cellphone and money, but the deceased allegedly did not take the matter seriously,” said Ndaba.

The man was declared dead at the scene, while the injured woman was rushed to the hospital.

Police later traced and arrested six men who are now facing charges of murder, robbery and rape. Ndaba added that more charges could be added as investigations continue.
