WATCH: Unsealed ballot boxes arrive at IEC offices in Standerton
SAPS forensic investigators cordoned off the area as a possible crime scene.
Political parties and community members gathered at the IEC offices in Standerton since early morning (November 5), accusing an IEC official of loading unsealed ballot boxes from the voting station in Ward 11, Sakhile, into a vehicle and then transporting them to the IEC offices without a police escort.
Representatives from various parties said that after the official had left Ward 11, they also travelled to the IEC offices, but upon their arrival, the official was not yet there. He allegedly arrived some time later.
Party representatives alleged that the official might have been intoxicated when he visited several voting stations during the night.

The police were summoned to the IEC offices, where their forensic team removed several unsealed ballot boxes from different voting stations, as well as boxes containing special votes, from the official’s vehicle.
SAPS forensic investigators cordoned off the area as a possible crime scene.
The Standerton Advertiser contacted the Sakhile police regarding the incident and was promised a response once all the facts had been gathered. The newspaper also sent questions to the IEC in Mpumalanga and is still awaiting a response
