Bethal Polocrosse Club dominates Western Mounted Games
Gert van der Merwe clinches title as veteran winner.
Riders of the Bethal Polocrosse Club dominated at the Western Mounted Games hosted by Trichardt Equestrian Centre at Bethal on Saturday, 14 July.
They scooped up most of the category trophies in the games held on their home ground on Gert van der Merwe’s farm.
The contestants took part in games such as barrel race, keyhole, poles 1, figure 8 stake and speed ball.
Van der Merwe clinched the title as veteran winner, followed by Marinda Miles from Gauteng in second place and Rhode van Staden from Trichardt Equestrian Centre in third place.
RW Doyer from Highveld Drifters came first in the category for lead rein.
Level 0 was won by Colin Miles from Gauteng, with Enzo Ferrari in second place and Aronette van Wyk third.
Bethal Polocrosse Club’s FJ de Villiers and Malissa Olivier respectively came first and second in the Level 1 competition.
Level 2 was won by Eri van der Merwe from Bethal Polocrosse Club. Nicky Doyer from Highveld Drifters was second and Mia Dupper from Gauteng was third.
The winner of Level 3 is Gert van der Merwe from Bethal Polocrosse Club, followed by Adeline Cruywagen from Gauteng in second place and Christo Grobbelaar from Highveld Drifters in third place.
All three positions in Level 4 were taken by riders from Bethal Polocrosse Club. They are Tilanie Groenewald in first place, Elri de Jager in second place and Marischke Groenewald in third place.
