Lekwa hosts Smarties athletics competition in Standerton

Lekwa West Circuit hosted a Smarties athletics for primary schools on 22 January.

This year’s event was hosted by Standerton Primary School and the venue was Hoërskool Standerton.

The heat and some learners’ lack of fitness played a part as Jeria Ambulance Services had to deal with cramps from the athletes between events, with some not even finishing their respective races.

Teachers motivated their athletes onto winning and encouraged those who missed out on a podium finish.

Standerton, Hlobisa, iGugulabasha, Nyandeni, Thandeka, Retsibile and Lindilanga Primary Schools, as well as Azalea and Stanwest Combined Schools, were among the participants.
