Secunda squash players make it through to the SA district championship

Lisa Venter clinched the gold medal in the GU/19 and also played for the first place in the U/16 group, because is actually not yet 16 years old.

SECUNDA – Several local junior squash players dominated the Mpumalanga Squash Championship trials held at the Sasol Secunda squash courts the past weekend.

Junior players between the ages of 10 and 19 throughout the province competed for a spot in the Mpumalanga team that will be competing in the South African Country Districts Championship in Bloemfontein at the end of April.

About 55 players sweat it out on the courts at Secunda.

In the U/19 group, HoĆ«rskool Secunda’s FG Visser won a silver medal among the boys and Lisa Venter clinched the gold medal. Lisa also played for the first place in the U/16 group, because she is actually not yet 16.

The other locals chosen for the Mpumalanga team are Erik Steenkamp and de Clercq Stoltz from Hoƫrskool Secunda and Frederik Vosloo from Secunda Christian Academy, who finished in eighth place in the BU/19 group.

FG Visser plays against Dylan Teixeira from White River. He placed overall second and won the silver medal.
