Volunteers are the heartbeat of parkrun in Standerton
They ensure the track is safe for the runners and also encourage them to keep going during the 5km.
Volunteers of the parkrun accomplished another success at the Standerton River Park on 23 February.
The weekend saw 13 volunteers work tirelessly to ensure a good event.
Deon Lee, Jennifer Naidoo, Johan van Zyl, Justin Strydom, Kathleen Ferreira, Laylaa Kisten, Lyn-Marie Oelofsen, Marjorie Uys, Preyanka and Romalan Dorosamy, Séan Jansen van Rensburg, Stanley Michael du Plessis and Wayne van der Walt (photographer) were in attendance.
Volunteers arrive the previous evening to clean the park and arrive early, before the race, to do likewise.
They ensure the track is safe for the runners and also encourage them to keep going during the 5km.
Standerton parkrun will be celebrating its first anniversary on 9 March and participants are urged to bring their family and friends.
“We will be having a 1st birthday theme,” Ms Fadeela Omar, Mpumalanga Regional Ambassador, said.
Women are to dress in baby pink and men in baby blue with baby hats, dummies and other baby accessories.
