Bethal Little Bears loses first match against eMbalenhle
Young player makes 50 runs in first cricket match
eMBALENHLE – Bethal Cricket Club’s Little Bears U/13 team played their first junior club cricket match against eMbalenhle on Saturday, 27 April and lost by nine wickets.
Niel Parsons, Bethal’s coach, said eMba won the toss and decided to bowl first.
The Little Bears managed to score 106 runs before being bowled out.
Damian de Beer and Thokozani Malaza were the best batsmen with respectively 50 and 10 runs.
“The Little Bears had many chances for early wickets, but unfortunately they could not hold on to their catches and in the end lost the match,” said Mr Parsons.
“We are very proud of each one of the players that played their hearts out. We had five players on the day playing their first hard ball cricket match. It has been a goal to get junior club cricket off the ground in Bethal, as well as the region.”
He thanked Mr Ignus Koekemoer of Mpumalanga Cricket for all his hard work in getting this league off the ground.
“This will give more players the chance to play cricket more often,” said Mr Parsons.
