Darts players go to SA’s in June

Women's team reaches national level

SECUNDA – Local darts players excelled at the Mpumalanga Darts Open Championship held on Saturday, 25 May, at the Sasol Recreation Club.

Both Mpumalanga’s men’s and women’s teams won with respectively 23 and 22 points.

Nkangala finished second in the men’s and women’s categories with respectively 13 and 14 points.

Players from Delmas, Mbombela, eMalahleni (Witbank), Gauteng and Secunda took part in the singles and doubles categories and some players were elected to take part in the Darts South African National Tournament in Port Elizabeth at the end of June.

They are Minette Oberholzer, Rees Naidoo, and Karen Anthony. The Govan Mbeki’s women’s team will also take part in the championship in Port Elizabeth.

In the men’s pairs division, Danie Botha and Jacques Coetzee won while Terry Scheepers and Renier Liebenberg finished second, Johan Spies and Piere Smith third and Lieb Liebenberg and Gideon Bester fourth.

Piere Smith won the men’s singles division while Jacques Coetzee finished second, Lieb Liebenberg third and Renier Liebenberg fourth.

Anna-Marie Lazar and Daleen Spies were the champions in the women’s pairs division while Lynette Ludwig and Karen Anthony finished second, Linda Botha and Heloise McClaren third and Nessie Louw and Alta Erns fourth.

Spies won the women’s singles division while Wendy Janse van Vuuren finished second, Janice Coetzee third and Wilma Dryer fourth.

Ferdie Kotse and Katelyn Coetzee won the juniors pairs division, Andrew Botha and Minette Oberholzer finished second and Emelio Ince and Rochelle Ford finished third.

Kotse won the junior boys singles division while Emelio Iince finished second, Andrew Botha third and Pieter Oberholzer.

Katelyn Coetzee won the junior girls singles division, Rochelle Ford finished second and Minette Oberholzer finished third.

Leslie Naidoo scored 128, the highest close while Jacques Coetzee, Renier Liebenberg, Danie Botha and Smith scored the maximum one can score on a board, namely 180.

Minette Oberholzer, from Govin Mbeki area will be representing Mpumalanga at the Darts South Africa National Tournament in Port Elizabeth.
