Standerton athletes set to go for Comrades

All participants had to qualify by running a standard marathon over 42km in under 4:50, which in itself is quite an achievement.

Standerton Marathon Club’s members who will take part in the Comrades Marathon lined up for a photo on Sunday, 2 June.

The Comrades will take place on 9 June from Durban to Pietermaritzburg over a distance of 88km.

All participants had to qualify by running a standard marathon over 42km in under 4:50, which in itself is quite an achievement.

Runners in the race will be hoping for the following medals:

Under 7:30 a silver medal, under 9:00 a Robert Mtsali medal (half silver, bronze), between nine to 11 hours a bronze medal, between 11 to 12 hours a copper or Vic Clapham medal.

Standerton Marathon Club’s runners who will take part in the Comrades Marathon are (in front) Lekgotla Dlamini, Tshepo Ntsibande, Sipho Mngomezulu, Paseka Tsotetsi and Oupa Mlangeni. At the back are Joseph Khumala, Sandlile Mazibuko, Tshepo Tsotetsi, Quinton Roberts, Joseph Manana, Kenny Swart, Richard Sangweni and Mxolisi Masondo. Ben Mlangeni, Thomas Motaung Amos Ndinisa, Sifiso Ndinisa and May Mnisi were absent when the photo was taken.
