Standerton Cricket Club awards top players

That is not all on the cricket calendar because the Cricket Business League will begin at the Piet van den Berg-oval on 30 June.

Standerton Cricket Club held its prize-giving on Saturday, 1 June where the evening’s event was firstly to promote the game within the community and to have Standerton’s cricket confirmed as a force to be reckoned with.

Players that have contributed to the town’s cricket over the past 12 months, were recognised and sponsors thanked.

Some of the highlights from 2018/2019 include the 50 Over Provincial Promotional League finalists, T20 Over Provincial Promotional League winners and individual and team recognition from the Gert Sibande District and the Titans Club.

The establishment of the Standerton Elite Cricket Academy to develop younger school players to hopefully one day represent the club, or town and even the country was mentioned.

Jacques Nel came out tops in the 5 Wicket Club with 9 overs, 50 runs, 7 wickets and Kai Daniel in the 100 Run Club with 129 runs (n.o.) from 93 balls (17 fours, 4 sixes, strike rate of 139).

Dayne Young was voted by players and awarded for the catch of the season in a T20 against Bethal.

The best newcomers are Justin Uys and Jason Steynberg, while the player’s player award went to Werner Mouton.

Nel was the best bowler for the most wickets (24) across all formats of play.

The best batsman was Quintin Kruger with the highest average (45.7) for the season across all formats of play.

Young was chosen by the captain of the team as the most valuable player.

That is not all on the cricket calendar because the Cricket Business League will begin at the Piet van den Berg-oval on 30 June.

Enthusiasts will be able to watch matches at 8am, 11am and 2pm at a facility suited for the whole family to enjoy.

The club invited the public to bring along their meat for a braai while matches take place in all earnest.
