During the head office and Gauteng SAPS championships held the next day, Van Schaik won the overall first place, as well a gold medal as the overall veteran winner

SECUNDA – W/O Louwrens van Schaik proved again last weekend that he is the police’s top rifle shot.

He won the Head Office and Gauteng Police Shooting Championship held at the Generaal Piet Joubert Shooting Range at Barberton from 11 to 13 July.

He also took part in Gauteng North Provincial Combat Rifle (SACRA) Championship held at the same venue on 12 July where 110 shooters from the police, SANDF, SAAF, SACS and PCRA (civilians) competed.

The championship kicked off with a night shoot on Thursday, 11 July.

Van Schaik, who competes in the elite X-class (with scope), won gold medals in the 100m snap (standing) and the 100m rapid (sitting) events, landing him the overall first place in the night shoot.

During the head office and Gauteng SAPS Championship held the next day, Van Schaik won the overall first place, as well as a gold medal as the overall veteran winner.

He also clinched gold medals in the 200m snap (sitting) and 300m snap (prone) events.

He obtained silver medals in the X-class events of 200m sustained fire (prone), 200m rapid (prone) and 300m snap (prone), as well as a bronze medal in the 200m rapid (sitting) event.

Van Schaik also did the police proud at the Gauteng North SACRA Championship, where he took silver medals in the veteran category for all classes and the 300m snap (prone) event in the X-class.

The mixed team matches that comprise a rapid and a snap event shot from 300m in the prone position, were held on 13 July.

Van Schaik’s team, Gat sonder end, came third.
