Secunda rugby players are part of team that came second in sevens tournament in America

According to Mr Van Rooyen, the Mustangs were also invited to play in a tournament in Dubai in December.

SECUNDA – New Beginnings Sport Development from Secunda recently took the Mustangs team to a seven-a-side rugby tournament in Los Angeles, USA.

The New Beginnings Sport Development team won the overall second place.

The tournament and a tour took place from 27 June to 8 July.

The Mustangs, comprising several local youths, first won their pool games and eventually lost in the final match.

Messrs Cobus van Rooyen and Hermann Swart are the managers and coaches of the team.

The local players in the team are Steven van Aswegen, Justin Jacobs, Ompa Mutsinyali, Khomotso Maluleka, Mfundo Jindela, Rakgoba Ramabolu, Pieter van Niekerk, Mathew Jansen and

Herman Moolman. The remaining players are Lungelo Dlungwana from Durban, Kamohelo Mototo and Neo Mokalodise from the Free State and Will Makena and Juandré Beukes from Piet Retief.

According to Mr Van Rooyen, the Mustangs were also invited to play in a tournament in Dubai in December.

Mr Van Rooyen said New Beginnings Sport Development is already planning a sevens tournament for U/10 and U/13 players during which they will select a team for the U/13 Future Blue Bulls Tournament.

“We have also embarked on rugby for girls and we plan to take a team abroad next year,” he said.
