Secunda skies buzz during 6th Speed Rally
According to Bouttell, poor visibility and strong wind made for a difficult race.
SECUNDA – The sky was buzzing as pilots and navigators competed for the fastest time during the sixth Pilot Insure Speed Rally.
The rally was presented in association with South Africa Power Flying Association (SAPFA) at Secunda Airfield on Friday, 9 and Saturday 10 August.
Cameras in the air and on the ground gave spectators a front seat view. Pilot Leon Bouttell and navigator Martin Meyer scored the most (1 000) championship points.
According to Bouttell, poor visibility and strong wind made for a difficult race.
David Ross (pilot) and James Braid (navigator) landed in second place with 935 championship points.
Phil Wakeley (pilot) and Mary de Klerk (navigator) finished in third with 885 championship points.
