Sasol Cricket Club goes to Nelspruit to defend title

Several Sasol Cricket Club teams compete over weekend

SECUNDA – Sasol Cricket Club had several teams competing in different leagues this past weekend.

The Sasol Griffons lost against Standerton 2 in the Promotion league on Saturday, 19 October. The Griffons managed to score 116 runs in their 20 overs and Standerton 2 made this in 18 overs.

Sasol Cricket Club hosted the Gert Sibande T20 Premier league playoffs on Sunday, 20 October and Sasol 2 tackled Piet Retief 1 in the first semi final.

Sasol scored 188/2 in their 20 overs and Nicus Boshoff of Sasol made 84 runs.

Piet Retief reached the target in the 19th over and beat Sasol with eight wickets.

In the second semi-final on Sunday, Sasol 1 played against Ermelo 1 and won the match with 76 runs. Sasol scored 198/3 in their 20 overs and restricted Ermelo to 122/6.

George Louw of Sasol scored 69 runs and Johan van Antwerpen 67, not out.

Colin van Staden and Dodds van Zyl of Sasol took two wickets each.

In the final match, Sasol 1 tackled Piet Retief and won with 93 runs. Sasol lost the toss and was send in to bat first. Sasol scored 166/6 and George Louw scored 61 runs.

Sasol bowled Piet Retief out for 73 runs.

Ignus Koekemoer, Louw and Ruhan Delport each took three wickets.

Sasol 1 will play against Nelspruit and the Witbank Snipers in Mbombela (Nelspruit) next Sunday and defend their Mpumalanga T20 title.
