First-timer wins 5km Secunda parkrun

Jason le Roux, Ilunga Kilonda and Suzette reached their 50th parkrun milestone on Saturday, while Amoré Roets, Ismari Rust, Madelein Roets, Karen Fourie and Janru Pretorius ran their 10th race

SECUNDA – Katleho Samuel won the 268th Secunda parkrun held on Saturday, 11 January.

Samuel is also the first senior man to cross the finish line.

He completed the scenic 5km run along the Trichardspruit dam towards the Secunda Duck Pond and back in a time of 16:24 – scarcely 23 seconds short of the standing record of 16:01 by Brand du Plessis.

This was his first Secunda parkrun.

The 18-year-old Tshiamo Lephoto, also a newcomer to the Secunda Parkrun, was second in a time of 17:40.

First timer, Siyabonga Kamhelo ended third overall in a time of 18:13.

He was also the first junior man across the finish line.

Michelle Parkes was the first woman, and first junior in a time of 20:41 followed by her younger sister, Liane with a time of 21:09.

A total of 455 runners took part in Saturday’s parkrun.

Of this, 114 were first time runners and 47 achieved their personal best times.
