Standerton’s Lekwa City FC will compete in provincial playoffs

Branddrift Coal provided Lekwa City FC with tracksuits.

Lekwa City Football Club announced their official sponsor for the 20/21 season, namely Branddrift Coal.

In his address on Wednesday, 18 November, the marketing manager of Branddrift Coal said they are proud to be associated with the team.

“We believe that tremendous value will be added to Lekwa City FC with our assistance and services,” Mr Riaan van Niekerk said.

“We are aware of what ‘Syabakokoda’ is capable of doing in the field of play. “We are just here to add energy to and to boost confidence in the boys.”

The team will represent the Lekwa Municipality and Gert Sibande District as a whole in the SAB Mpumalanga Provincial Playoffs in Middelburg on 5 December. T

he owner of Lekwa City FC, Mr Zibonele Madela, welcomed the partnership, saying it is the result of hard work.

Mr Madela encouraged the team to continue working hard and alerted them to the pressure.

He also thanked his old-time friend, Mr Adriaan Odendaal, for facilitating the sponsorship deal. Mr Odendaal told the team he is their number one fan and believes their future is bright, before wishing them all the best.

The playoffs will be held at the Themba Senamela Stadium’s main field. Lekwa City FC qualified after winning the Gert Sibande SAB League Stream A.

The Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League will be decided among six teams, two from the Gert Sibande Region, two from the Nkangala Region and two from the eHlanzeni Region.

The home team is in a group A fixture and will compete at 9am against Mahamba FC and at noon, against a team from the eHlanzeni Region. Another match will be decided between a team from the eHlanzeni Region and Mahamba FC at 3pm.

Group B will play at the Kees Taljaard Stadium’s main field and the competitors at 9am are Ultimate XI FC and a team from the eHlanzeni Region, at noon, a team from the eHlanzeni Region and Shooters FC and at 3pm, Shooters FC and Ultimate XI FC.

All the matches will be played without any fans in attendance.

Mr Jeffrey ‘Mjef’ Mathebula, former head coach of City Boys FC and Remember FC, both teams from eMbalenhle in the Govan Mbeki Municipality, also joined Lekwa City FC.
