Victor Khanye hosts Mpumalanga Darts Federation prize-giving

The Mpumalanga Darts Federation (MDF) had its 2022 season prize-giving ceremony in Sundra.

The fancy dress affair took place at the Purple Plum on Saturday, August 13.

Men, women and youngsters were honoured for a season well done in the sport of darts.

The MDF prize-giving was attended by the committee with the president, Freddie Burmeister, the vice-president, Arthur Oberholzer, the financial director, Rees Naidoo, the tournament director, and Maryna Burmeister, the secretary, Karen Naidoo as well as the public relations development officer, Stefan Smit.

Paul Kruger, better known as Cowboy, and Marzjeanne Britz entertained the guests with music.

Geraldine Naidoo impressed the guests with her cultural dance performance.

The afternoon opened with a speech from the president, Freddie Burmeister.

“I want to thank everybody for the planning and the hard work that went into the day’s event.

“Well done to all our players, young and old, you all did exceptionally well and deserve to be here tonight to receive your trophies,” said Burmeister.

“Thank you to my Mpumalanga committee who supported me and worked together as a team this year, you are a force to be reckoned with.

“As we embark on a new season, I trust that we will work well together and grow from strength to strength,” Burmeister added.

Some of the women who achieved excellent results during the 2022 darts season.

Association teams that participated during the 2022 season were Victor Khanye, Msukaligwa, Mbombela, Emakhazeni, Steve Tshwete, Mbombela, Govan Mbeki and Emalahleni.

Provincial and district teams consisted of the Mpumalanga women, men, juniors, master women and master men, the Nkangala men and women teams as well as the Gert Sibande men’s teams.

The trophy ceremony was closed by the big event in which the President’s Excellence Trophy was awarded to Terry Scheepers from Nkangala.

Scheepers achieved his Protea colours.

On local ground, the team of Victor Khanye fared well.

Hendrick Louwrens was crowned Men’s Singles Champion for 2022.

Katie Botha was rewarded as the Junior Girls Singles Champion and received a bronze medal for Inter District Team Games.

The President’s Excellence Trophy is presented to Terry Scheepers by Freddie Burmeister.

Linda Botha and Susan Viviers received a silver medal for the Master Women Selected Pairs.

Jessica van Rensburg was crowned for the Highest Women’s Closure at 140, Jean Burmeister for the most 171’s and Alta Ernst received the trophy for the Most Improved Women’s Player.

The Mpumalanga Sportsman of the Year award went to Quinten van der Merwe and first MP 180’s to Jaco Smith, André du Plessis, Hendrick Louwrens and Eulene Greeff.

Eulene Greef and Anita du Plessis picked up the first MP 140’s prizes.

The fifth Mpumalanga 180’s went to Francois Peens and Jean Burmeister.

The first Mpumalanga 171 as well as the most 171’s went to Eulene Greeff.

“I thank everyone for a season well played and good sportsmanship and we hope for a very good 2023 season of darts within the MPA. We hope that every player gets selected to participate in the 2023 nationals in KwaZulu-Natal,” Burmeister concluded.
