Delmas hosts Mpumalanga abrobatic gymnastics trials

All the teams fared well and qualified for the South African Championship level 4 that will take place on October 7 at Gymfinity in Benoni and level 5 and upwards will compete on October 8 and 9 at Matsport in Centurion.

The Delmas Gymnastics Club, for the very first time, hosted the Mpumalanga trials.

The event took place at the Dutch Reformed Church in Delmas on Saturday, August 23.

Participating teams were from Delmas and Witbank.

Experienced judges from as far as the Western Cape attended the event.

Judges included Adéle Truter, Cecillia Pieters and Kayla Marais from Gauteng, Karen du Preez and Sian Grundeling from Mpumalanga, and Ilse Carr and Zelda Pieterse from the Western Cape.

Delmas’ own Florence Cindi, the 28-year-old owner of the club and a professional acrobat coach with Springbok colours in acrobatic gymnastics, was also among the judges.

The Delmas team consisted of Dané Hurter, Zannika de Jager and Mieke Struwig who competed on level 4 (U/11 combined); Jolandi Struwig and Mia Kroukamp on level 5 (U/11 combined); Somila Ncube, Mia Kruger and Leane van der Merwe on level four (U/13 combined); Lindokuhhle Masuku, Jolandi Strydom and Mia Kroukamp on level 6 (U/13 combined); Dané Hurter and Mieke Struwig on level 4 (U/11 combined); Mika Kruger and Leane van der Merwe as well as Linkohuhle Masuku and Janeke du Toit on level 4 (U/11 combined); Marcus van Staden and Mia Kruger on level 5 (U/11 combined); and Zannika de Jager and Somila Ncumbe on level 3 (U/13).
