Allen Glen High School showed that they are a force to be reckoned with on the rugby field when they took on HTS Carel de Wet on Saturday.

Allen Glen High School hosted a successful sports day, playing against HTS Carel de Wet from Vanderbijlpark on March 2.

The rugby teams of the two schools took each other on in titanic clashes, with the home team coming out on top time after time.

Both schools were well represented and the stands were packed to capacity with very enthusiastic parents, egging their players on loudly.

The HTS Carel de Wet teams, despite some very impressive performances, simply could not match the Allen Glen High teams on the day, with Allen Glen dominating in matches throughout all the age groups.

The U14s were first to take to the field, and in a hard-fought game, Allen Glen managed to take the win, scoring 14 to Carel de Wet’s 10.

Allen Glen High’s second team pushes across the line for the first try of the second half.

Allen Glen High’s U15s managed a much more convincing triumph, thrashing the other team to finish with 24–5. The U16s followed suit with a sound victory of 19–5.

Allen Glen’s second team showed that they are a force to be reckoned with during their game, making good use of their strong and disciplined forwards and their quick and nimble back line. They did not wait for the other team to come to them, pushing ever forward, and taking the win with an impressive 29–10.

The real show, and the game that everyone had been waiting all day in the hot sun for, was the clash of the first teams.

The home team did not disappoint, showing excellent discipline and ball skills, and fully exploiting every opportunity. Their efforts paid off, and they gave the visiting team a sound thrashing, with a full-time score of 41–0.

According to acting deputy principal, Marnus Grobbelaar, the school is incredibly proud of its rugby teams.
“Our teams worked hard to prepare for this clash, and they carried out their task with distinction.

“Judging by the school spirit and discipline we saw here today, I think it is safe to say that there are big things in store for Allen Glen High this year.”
