Hospice Wits is grateful for generosity

HOUGHTON – Palliative care is given in order to take a holistic, inter-disciplinary team approach to emphasise the quality of the patient’s life.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19, HospiceWits continues to offer quality care and support to all their patients.

CEO of HospiceWits Jacqui Kaye said the hospice offers this care with generous donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) received from many individuals and organisations in the community.

“Our gratitude goes to all the trustees and administrators for their generous awards, and from donors through next of kin of patients, in lieu of gifts for special occasions, and donations made in memory of someone special. Our second-hand shops have seen steady growth in sales over the second half of the year, and we are most grateful to all who donate their pre-loved goods for this purpose. Don’t forget, we collect from your home or office,” Kaye said.

She explained that due to the Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown regulations, they were unable to host their annual Tree of Light event which usually takes place at the end of November at the Johannesburg Zoo. “We are experiencing challenges in selling globes to our usual corporates and smaller companies, as many of them were affected financially by the Covid-19 crisis. Buy a globe in memory of a loved one.”

Kaye added that as a company that values and celebrates diversity in all forms, whether it is the patients and their families, the customer base, and their employees. “We at Hospice Wits celebrate the Christmas season in a more extended form, just as it should be – embracing and valuing all of humanity regardless of our religious beliefs.

“It is only fitting that we thank each one of you in the community for your steadfast support of our services. In this loveliest and happiest of seasons, may you find many reasons to celebrate a festive holiday season and a very prosperous 2022.”
