CONSTITUTION HILL HOSTS BASHA UHURU FESTIVAL
Basha Uhuru Freedom Fest, Constitution Hill’s flagship youth festival, is set to ignite Johannesburg from the 12th – 14th June 2014! The event, a collaboration between Constitution Hill and Kalashnikovv Gallery (a contemporary art gallery owned Johannesburg’s creative duo, Murray Turpin and Matthew Dean) aims to showcase young creatives of the urban youth culture through music, film, art, poetry and performance and will be hosted over three days- with the main festival being held on the 14th June 2014.
This festival, which was conceptualized by Constitution Hill’s young Exhibitions & Archives Coordinator Gaisang Sathekge, is in its second year and will showcase a variety of creative art elements, namely art exhibitions, live art, film screenings, creative network exchange, a music fest, and a market- all combined into the heritage melting pot that is Constitution Hill. There will be two exhibitions running, including “Riot”- an exhibition which will feature 20 local artists working on original South African military helmets used in various riots and uprisings in the 1970s and 80s.
