Detours dance festival

The festival acknowledges the need for alternative platforms of experimentation and expression, and aims to tackle and investigate various avenues in movement composition. This year, the festival will join forces with the Re-visioning Dance festival to include dance works made specifically for the screen.

This year’s programme will include performances by Nicholas Aphane, Silindokuhle Albert Khoza, Nyaniso Dzedze, Claire Rousell, the University of Pretoria students facilitated by Bailey Snyman, Kwanele Finch Thusi, Matthieu Nieto, Georges Pfruender, Kieron Jina, and the First Physical Theatre Company’s Nomcebisi Moyikwa.

Participating University of the Witwatersrand students include Raezeen Wentworth and senior physical theatre students Oupa Sibeko, Amy de Wet and Saskia van Ryneveld.

MA student Gina Kraft will present a site-specific work.

The Re-visioning Dance programme will feature Screendance films produced by Leigh Nudelman Sussman, Jeanette Ginslov and Wits alumnus, Tumelo Maloka.
